A Vipassana centre in the Netherlands?

Vipassana first came to the Netherlands in 1988. Ten-day courses have been organised at rented sites since that time.

In the year 2000, the Dutch Vipassana Trust joined forces with old students in Belgium and Germany to establish the meditation center Dhamma Pajjota, just across the border from the Netherlands, in the Belgian province of Limburg. Dhamma Pajjota continues to serve us well as the centre for the Netherlands, Belgium and North Western Germany. Waiting lists for courses are long, and Dhamma Pajjota has plans to continue growing.

At the same time, many Dutch old students have expressed a wish for a second center in our area, in a central and easily reached location in the Netherlands. With the support of the Dutch trust, a working group was formed earlier this year to explore the options. Thanks to a generous offer of financial support, this dream now seems much closer to fruition. An active search for a site has now been undertaken.

A centre in the Netherlands dedicated exclusively to Vipassana meditation as taught by S.N. Goenka in the tradition of Sayagyi U Ba Khin, is expected to become a new and powerful wellspring for the growth of Dhamma.

Where: a quiet place not far from the center of the country, in the provinces North-Holland, South-Holland (for example in the "Green Heart"), Utrecht, Gelderland, Overijssel or Flevoland.

What: Land, with or without buildings on it, with an approximate surface of 3 to 7 hectares.
